The Portland Conservatory of Music, a nonprofit community music school, offers free, online performances by school faculty in its weekly Noonday Concert series. This academic year’s concert series is being presented online, with videos posted on the first and third Thursdays of each month through May 20. Each remains available until superseded by the next concert.

In the short videos, featured faculty members will talk about and demonstrate their instruments and the piece they will perform. The latest concert, with Nathan Kolosko, will be on offer through Wednesday, February 17, from noon to 5 p.m.

Multi-instrumentalist and composer Kolosko will demonstrate three instruments used in traditional Persian classical music: the kamancheh, tar, and oud. He will talk about each instrument’s history, construction and technique and will perform a short piece on each.

Kolosko has recorded four studio albums and published over 20 compositions that have been performed and recorded worldwide. He also performs with the Portland-based Middle Eastern ensemble Zapion.
