Rockland’s Strand Theatre will present “Strand on the Air” the last Sunday of every month for the duration of the pandemic.
“We knew people enjoyed the live broadcasts we’ve done on a twice-a-year basis from the theater stage since 2018,” said series writer-director Liz Mcleod in a news release, “but the feedback we got from our special ‘Social Distancing Edition,’ heard on May 17, was so positive that we’ve decided to make it a regular thing at least through September.”
The broadcasts, featuring original music created and performed by Strand education coordinator Brittany Parker and original comedy written by McLeod and performed by McLeod and the Strand Family Players, follow the classic radio variety format. The summer series will also showcase local musical talent.
The next program will be broadcast over local station WRFR at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, featuring the Waldo County–based harmony team of Patty Jackson and Rusty Blake.
Local musicians who would like to participate in the series are encouraged to submit a sample recording by emailing manager@rocklandstrand.com.
Past “Strand on the Air” programs are available for listening at rocklandstrand.com and via the Strand YouTube channel.
