Boothbay Railway Village, a nonprofit museum at 586 Wiscasset Road in Boothbay, needs the help of volunteers  as it gears up for its 52nd season, and two work days have been scheduled to get ready for its season opening on May 27. Each day chores will be carried out from 9 a.m. to noon, ending with a light picnic lunch, courtesy of the volunteers who serve as the museum’s Board of Directors.

On Saturday, April 29, volunteers can assist with either cleaning and stocking the Museum Store, or pitch in with grounds work like raking leaves and preparing garden beds for planting.

On Saturday, May 13, one team will work outside, planting window boxes and new gardens, and another will work with museum staff on cleaning the Antique Auto Exhibit, with its 60-plus vehicles, from top to bottom.

To sign up for a work day, e-mail the date, which project you want to help with, and your name and phone number or e-mail to, or call 633-4727.

In addition, the museum’s annual Staff and Volunteer Retreat will be held on Friday, May 19, a half-day program that comprises “a great way” to be introduced to museum operations and meet everyone. There are many ways volunteers can assist in the day-to-day operation of the museum and during its schedule of family-friendly events. Those interested in joining the museum’s volunteer team may contact Executive Director Margaret Hoffman at or 633-4727.
