The Thomaston Fourth of July Committee has decided to err on the side of caution and will not hold the traditional parade, road race, fireworks and other activities they usually offer to celebrate the holiday.

They will again host a pandemic-friendly contest to commemorate Independence Day. Everyone in Thomaston is encouraged to decorate their homes and businesses from Saturday, June 26, through Sunday, July 4. Participants can enhance their decorations with costumes and live action from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, the Fourth of July, when anonymous volunteer judges will view decorations and select winners in four categories: Most Patriotic, Most Humorous, Most Creative and “The Future Looks Bright!” Everyone can vote on Facebook for their favorite display; the winner will receive the People’s Choice award. Winners in each category will receive $100 gift cards from local businesses; there will be a prize basket for the winner of the People’s Choice award.
