Pen Bay Medical Center (PBMC), 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport, and Waldo County General Hospital (WCGH), 116 Northport Avenue, Belfast, will provide free flu shots for the coming season. The optimal time to get a flu shot is before the end of October. Influenza viruses circulate all year; in Maine, flu season occurs primarily in fall and winter — peaking between December and February — and can last into late spring.

Shots at PBMC will be available for adults and those who are at least 9 years old. Pregnant women and people who may be concerned about preservatives should know that vaccines are preservative-free. High-dose vaccine will not be available through the PBMC free clinic.

The PBMC clinic will be held Monday, October 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. in conference room “A” next to Bay View Cafe. Walk-ins are welcome at the clinic and at the hospital pharmacy during regular pharmacy hours.

Flu shots at WCGH, for adults only, will be available Tuesday, October 15, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. in the teleconference room on the lower level; Thursday, October 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the classroom; Tuesday, November 5, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. in the teleconference room; Tuesday, November 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the classroom; and Tuesday, December 3, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. in the teleconference room.
