Dear readers, advertisers and friends of The Free Press,

We’re moving!

As the newspaper industry continues to change and morph, so do we here in midcoast Maine.

In order to continue to bring you a quality weekly feature paper like The Free Press and your fine weekly “papers of record” in Rockland, Camden and Belfast (Courier Publications) with daily news via our VillageSoup websites, we’ve decided to team up The Free Press and Courier Publications into one centralized building in Camden.

Combining facility resources will reduce rent significantly as well as the cost of phone, internet, reception services, finance departments and distribution of the papers.

The Courier-Gazette and Camden Herald, now located on Route 1 at the Breakwater Building in Rockland, and The Free Press, now on North Main Street in Rockland, near Dunkin’ Donuts and Wasses Hot Dogs, will both relocate to the former Tibbetts Building off Limerock Street in Camden in early November.

The papers will continue to operate autonomously in regard to editorial content and production, while sharing some resources in finance, distribution, customer service, etc. This will give us continued opportunities to serve our hometown communities in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties.

We have also joined up, as a strategic partner, with the Ellsworth American and Mount Desert Islander in Hancock County; this new location will be more centrally located to them as well, cutting down on our printing corridor and allowing for additional collaboration. Our new space has adequate parking and room for growth for both The Free Press and Courier/VillageSoup groups, both difficult challenges in our current situation.

We expect to invite the community to an open house in this newly renovated space in early 2020.

Thank you for supporting the journalism with your advertising and subscription support; we couldn’t do it without you!
