A new midcoast group, Climate Matters Maine, which is affiliated with the midcoast branch of Southern Maine Democratic Socialists of America, will hold the first in a series of free events on the climate crisis — a slide presentation and discussion inspired by the Sunrise Movement — at First Universalist Church, 345 Broadway, Rockland, on Monday, August 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Organizers will discuss current policy proposals and ways individuals can provide political momentum by becoming part of the movement to address climate change. All are welcome.

There will also be a community meeting on Thursday, September 12, at Watts Hall, 174 Main Street, Thomaston, featuring speakers including State Rep. Chloe Maxmin.

Both events are in preparation for Global Climate Strike, which will take place on September 20. For more information, phone Davis Saltonstall at 691-2213 or email davissaltonstall@gmail.com.
