A new combined mini-mart, gas station, and McDonald's restaurant is scheduled to open in Thomaston by December 1.

"The absolute latest would be Thursday morning," said Darrell Clark, the marketing manager for Nouria Energy, the Massachusetts-based company that will run the convenience store and the car wash.

The Thomaston project is a collaboration between the developer of the property, Priority Group of Topsham, and Nouria Energy. It is located in front of Lowe's home improvement store at the corner of Dexter Street and US Route 1.

Nouria Energy also bought Kaler's Korner market at the corner of Old County Road and Route 17 in Rockland on November 15.

"We like having two locations near each other, but we don't plan any major changes at Kaler's Korner," said Clark. "We may offer a brand-name gas, but it is a popular spot, and we don't see a need to change much. We aren't even changing the name."

The company is currently hiring employees for both locations.

Nouria Energy founder Tony El-nemr started his career pumping gas at a service station in Massachusets in 1987 and bought his first gas station two years later.

Together, Priority Group and Nouria Energy will have opened three combination gas station-fast food-minimart-car wash developments in Maine in 2011 and plan to open three or four in Maine every year for the next 10 years, according to a spokesperson for Priority Group. The most recent projects were in Wiscasset, Sanford and Hollis.

The McDonald's restaurant at the Thomaston site will be owned and operated by Ron and Cyndi Lydick of Falmouth. The Lydicks also own McDonald's in Rockland, Damariscotta, Gardiner, Gray, Brunswick, Yarmouth and Freeport. This is their first partnership with Nouria Energy.

"The car wash will take a little longer to open," said Clark.

A grand opening for the Thomaston site will be held in January, said Clark.
