Shaun Corson, 33, a prisoner at Maine State Prison who was to be extradited to Florida for murder, was found dead in his cell around 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, according to the Maine Department of Corrections.

Steve McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said the Maine State Police are investigating the death and an autopsy will be done by the medical examiner's office on Monday, July 25.

"He appears to have hung himself with a bed sheet," said McCausland.

Corson was a fugitive from Florida and had been at the Maine State Prison since last week. He was originally from Madison, Maine, said McCausland.
