Susan J. McKown, 80 years old, of Thomaston, Maine, passed away surrounded by her family in her home on May 25, 2021. She was the wife of George McKown of Thomaston Maine.

Susan Jean (Webster) McKown was born on July 8, 1940, at The Knox County General Hospital in Rockland, Maine, to Virginia and Kenneth Webster of Vinalhaven, Maine. Susan lived on Vinalhaven for the first 28 years of her life before moving to Thomaston in 1968. She graduated from Vinalhaven High School in 1958. Susan worked at Maritime Energy for 42 years until her retirement in 2008.

Susan was best known for her “tell it like it is” attitude and her love of cats. The thing she enjoyed most were her daily morning “coffee” rides around Rockland. She loved going to her camp in Beddington, Maine, especially during blueberry season. Susan was an avid reader.

In addition to her parents Susan is predeceased by beloved grandson Tristan Sawyer and sister Ann Guidoboni. Susan is survived by husband George McKown of Thomaston; daughter Laurie Whittier Southard of Rockland, Maine; son Daniel Whittier of Union, Maine; grandchildren Ashley Southard of Cushing, Maine, Tyler Curtis-Southard and wife Andrea of Rockland, Maine, Jade Southard of Thorndike, Maine, Kelsey Parker and husband Joe of Randolf, Maine, Katlyn Whittier of Wiscassett, Maine, and Tasia Whittier of Lincolnville, Maine; grandchildren Teagan and Taylor Secotte of Cushing, Maine, and Emma Curtis-Southard of Rockland; her sister Linda Adams and husband Richard of South Thomaston, Maine, and her brother Kenneth Webster and wife, Donna of Vinalhaven, Maine; brother-in-law, Norman Guidoboni of Wiscassett, Maine; many nieces, nephews and cousins including special “double cousin” Donna (Webster) Meyerbach of Seal Cove, Maine.
