The Tragedy of King Richard the Second will be presented as a National Theatre Live broadcast from the stage of the Almeida Theatre in London to the Strand Theatre in Rockland on Thursday, February 14. Show times are 2 and 7 p.m. Simon Russell Beale plays William Shakespeare’s Richard II in this new production directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins about the limits of power. Richard II, king of England, is irresponsible, foolish and vain. His weak leadership sends his kingdom into disarray and his court into uproar. Seeing no other option but to seize power, the ambitious Bolingbroke challenges the throne and the king’s divine right to rule. Tickets are $12, general admission.
