Big thanks to all participants, all volunteers and camp staff for another successful Blueberry Cove half-marathon in St. George. All proceeds, nearly $19,000, benefit children coming to the Blueberry Cove and Tanglewood 4-H Camps and Learning Centers, sponsored by the University of Maine.

The happy event took place on August 26, and was won by 26-year-old Emma Broderick of New York City, running her first half-marathon. This is first time a woman has been overall winner of the race. August 26 happens to be Women’s Equality Day. How appropriate! The equality day celebrates the 1920 proclamation of the 19th Constitutional Amendment, for the first time establishing the right of women to vote.

Special thanks to those who donated food to our post-race brunch: Thomaston Cafe, The Sugar Tree, the East Wind Inn, the Happy Clam, Rock City Coffee, Atlantic Baking Co., the Good Tern co-op store, Laura Cabot Catering and any others I forgot.

Besides Women’s Equality Day, August 26 included a beautiful full moon.
