Artists in Profile by Marjorie Strauss 
will run every other week in The Free Press.
“I grew up on a small farm in northeastern Connecticut. My family had a wildlife rehabilitator’s permit. We’d raise fawns, baby raccoons and other orphaned wildlife brought to us by the game warden until they were old enough to survive on their own, then we’d release them into the wild. This allowed me to spend time documenting my experiences using an old disc camera or a 110. 

“I’ve been photographing seriously for about 25 years, specializing in nature, wildlife and landscape. I am self-taught. Now I work out of my home studio near Ellsworth and Acadia National Park. 

“I think of myself first as a wildlife watcher and a photographer second. I want my audience to feel the awe that I feel when I’m there in person. I hope by sharing my images I can help educate others about the fragile natural world that surrounds us.”

Davis is president and a member of Art Space, a fine-art cooperative gallery in Rockland owned and operated by Maine artists, where her work is on display, along with that of 14 other member artists.
