Snowshoeing on a Georges River Land Trust trail
Snowshoeing on a Georges River Land Trust trail
Georges River Land Trust (GRLT) will host a guided snowshoe walk at Wheeler Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in St. George on Sunday, January 20, at 6 p.m. Jocelyn Paquette will lead the one-mile guided adventure. Participants can snowshoe under the full moon, listen for owls, see tracks of other local wildlife in the snow, and possibly catch the unmistakable sound of the quarry ice singing. After the walk, Paquette will offer hot beverages and a sweet treat at her home on the edge of the quarry. She’ll describe how GRLT is turning the quarry into a wildlife sanctuary, and all the wildlife that now call the place home.

The walk is free, and all are welcome to attend. It is limited to 25 guests and is suitable for children. Registration by phone is required; call 594-5166 to sign up by January 18. Registered guests will receive an email with directions to the site. Dress warmly, bring snowshoes and headlamp or flashlight.
