Merryspring Nature Center, 30 Conway Road, Camden, will host a talk by birder and columnist Don Reimer, “Summering with Vultures,” on Tuesday, February 18, at noon, as part of the Winter Talk series. Admission to Tuesday talks is $5; free for members.

Maine’s turkey vulture numbers have expanded immensely since the state’s first nesting pair was discovered in Camden in 1982. Reimer will provide an inside look as a vulture pair raises two downy chicks from egg to fledged independence, tracing weekly progress and changes at the nest site throughout the 2019 summer season.

Reimer, a board member of Midcoast Audubon, has led field excursions for local environmental organizations and the American Birding Association National Convention. He is also on the board of the Friends of Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge in Rockland, and has participated in many citizen-science projects. His bimonthly column “Birding with Dom Reimer” appears in The Free Press.
