" Do you have one of those leaky homes? If so, the Rockland Energy Committee’s Weatherize Rockland initiative can help you. Weatherize Rockland is helping Rockland residents sign up for energy assessments, air sealing, insulation, and other energy services at discounts of up to 95%. "
When I first moved to Rockland, I lived in a leaky old house with windows that would freeze over entirely…on the inside. It was a small place but it was still really hard to keep warm, especially on those cold, windy mid-February days. I thought my place was uniquely leaky, but over the years I learned that I was not alone in shivering through the winters here. Turns out there are a lot of drafty old houses in Rockland and more than 70 percent of them were built before effective air sealing and insulation techniques were common, meaning that there are many homes out there that could use some tightening up.

Do you have one of those leaky homes? If so, the Rockland Energy Committee’s Weatherize Rockland initiative can help you. Weatherize Rockland is helping Rockland residents sign up for energy assessments, air sealing, insulation, and other energy services at discounts of up to 95%.

Here are five reasons to sign up:

• Stay warmer. Air sealing and insulation help reduce drafts and heat loss, making your home more comfortable and easier to heat!

• Save money. Energy efficiency upgrades like air sealing, insulation, or replacing an old heating system can save you big on your heating (and cooling) bills. Basic air sealing alone can save you 10 to 15 percent, easily paying for itself in a year or two.

• Save more money! With rebates of up to $5,000 from Efficiency Maine and bulk discounts on services from Penobscot Home Performance, Weatherize Rockland will help you save even more on energy upgrades for your home. Special rebates for mobile home owners and participants in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are eligible for discounts of 65 to 95 percent!

• Learn from the pros. Weatherize Rockland is working with Penobscot Home Performance, one of Maine’s premier home energy companies, because they know their stuff.

Paul Shepherd and Matt Damon (no, not that Matt Damon) are certified by the Building Performance Institute and

are regarded as two of the best energy contractors in the

state. Their team will help you understand where energy is being wasted in your home, identify the areas for improvement, and then help you make a game plan for how to tighten it up.

• Your neighbors are doing it. More than 25 Rockland households have already signed up. What are you waiting for?
