University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Knox and Lincoln Counties, 377 Manktown Road in Waldoboro, is planning to hold their fifth annual seed swap and seed-saving workshop on National Seed Swap Day, Saturday, January 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Snow date will be Saturday, February 1. For seed-saving guidelines, visit almanac.com and search “saving seeds.” Those who plan to participate are asked not to bring seeds collected from hybrid plants (as they will not grow true to type) or GMO seeds; they are encouraged to bring flower, herb or vegetable seeds — perennial, annual or biannual — and notes about any special growing instructions. The free workshop is open to the public and refreshments will be served. Snack donations are welcome. For more information, call Jean Vose at 563-7564 or email godslove@tidewater.net.
