Lincoln County Gleaners celebrated community and volunteerism during Maine Gleaning Week, October 9 to 16. The volunteer organization has harvested over 7,400 pounds of surplus crops from farmers’ fields and distributed it through community sharing tables and other venues. Across Maine, gleaning organizations partner with local farms to collect crops and distribute them to food pantries, backpack programs, housing authorities, health clinics, and other organizations. The group welcomes new volunteers — both individuals and groups — to help harvest, transport and distribute food. No experience is necessary; all ages and abilities are welcome. For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page, email Sally Ingraham at lcgleanersme@gmail.com or call 563-1330.
