Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers (KLCB) will offer a seven-week beekeeping course — Bee School — on consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. February 25 through April 14 (includes one snow day) at Lincoln County Assembly of God Church, 672 Main Street, Damariscotta. KLCB members will lead the course; the Maine state apiarist will speak one evening about honeybee pests and pest management. Attendees will learn about honeybees; how to select an apiary site; equipment requirements and use; four-season management; and honeybee pests and pest management options. They will also have an opportunity to meet local beekeepers willing to mentor new beekeepers. The organization holds monthly programs throughout the year, with numerous hive openings and speakers during the spring, summer and fall months to encourage hands-on experiences for all levels of beekeepers. The course fee is $60, which includes a textbook, handouts and a prorated yearly membership in KLCB. To register, visit klcbee.com.
