Knox County Gleaners will hold an informational meeting at Rockland Rec (aka Flanagan Center), 61 Limerock Street in Rockland, on Wednesday, July 17, at 4:30 p.m. Nancy Wood, SNAP-Ed nutrition educator for Knox County, will introduce Kelly Davis, gleaning coordinator for Merry-meeting Gleaners in Sagadahoc County, who will talk about gleaning in her area.

Gleaners are volunteers who harvest produce that farmers leave in their fields. They take it to food distribution sites — for example, food pantries and soup kitchens — so  everyone can benefit from healthy food. Gleaning also benefits farmers by helping them clean up their fields and giving them tax deductions for donated produce.

Small farmers, gardening enthusiasts, volunteers — anyone who would like to be involved in this community effort — are welcome to attend.
