Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Teen Agricultural (Ag) Crew and staff will offer a free presentation at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, at Camden Hills Regional High School, 25 Keelson Drive, Rockport. All are welcome. The Teen Ag Crew grows vegetables in a four-acre garden at Erickson Fields Preserve on Route 90 in Rockport. Produce from the garden is distributed to eight food-relief agencies in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties and to MSAD 28, Quarry Hill Retirement Community and several local restaurants. Teen Ag Crew — comprised of high school students — manages the operations from seeding to distribution of more than 30 different crops, learning the fundamentals of market-garden production. Last season, Teen Ag Crew produced more than 16,000 pounds of vegetables, most of which supplied local food pantries through a contract with Good Shepherd Food Bank. Since the program started in 2010, Teen Ag Crew has distributed more than 100,000 pounds of produce. Attendees will meet crew members, sample dishes featuring Erickson Fields produce, and learn about youth-led food security and access projects in the midcoast.
