Belfast Garden Club will host The State of the Birds: Decades of Change, presented by Nicholas Lund, Maine Audubon’s outreach and network manager, on Tuesday, January 21, at Belfast Free Library. The program is free and open to the public; it will begin at 2 p.m., following a 1 p.m. business meeting for members. Lund observes that bird populations in Maine are continually changing. His talk and slide presentation will depict changes that have occurred during the last few decades, including which species are disappearing and which are increasing. He will then discuss the future outlook for Maine birds and ways gardeners can help protect birds. Lund is a birder, contributes a regular column on the National Audubon Society’s website and hosts the birding website “The Birdist.” His writing has also appeared in The Washington Post, Slate.com, and National Geographic online, among other publications. Lund is a Maine native and holds a law degree from University of Maine School of Law. For more information, visit belfastgardenclub.org.
