The Commons, a shared meeting space and forum for climate, environmental and social-justice work located at 158 High Street, Belfast, will celebrate its grand opening from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, January 20. Maine Rep. Jan Dodge will perform a ribbon-cutting ceremony just after noon, which will be followed by an open house with refreshments, information and social time.

Four organizations have come together to open the downtown space, according to a news release, “as a community resource for all who are working cooperatively towards a better world”: Local Citizens for SMART Growth, Belfast Area Community Rights, Midcoast Maine Extinction Rebellion and Friends of the Harriet L. Hartley Conservation Area. Other groups or individuals who align with the collective mission of the space are invited to explore how they might get involved.
