David Cheever will present “Ready or Not: Statehood Comes to Maine” — the first in a series of monthly Sunday afternoon talks celebrating Maine’s Bicentennial, cohosted with Camden-Rockport Historical Society — at Camden Public Library on Sunday, January 19, at 2 p.m. The series will continue throughout 2020. Cheever, vice chair of the Maine Bicentennial Commission, will recount the story of Maine’s road to statehood from before 1820 to the outbreak of the Civil War. He is deputy secretary of state for public outreach and civic engagement and recently completed his second six-year term as Maine state archivist. Cheever is also a member of the Collections Committee of the United States Semiquincentennial Commission, the national organization preparing the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States.
