Camden Public Library will offer Jumpstart January, a series of workshops led by local artists and library staff. Class sizes are limited; advance registration is recommended. Each class has a $10 fee to help cover costs.

Local mixed-media fiber artist and writer Robinsunne will lead Envelope Pocket Portfolios on Saturday, January 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants will learn how to use everyday paper materials, such as maps, to create pocket portfolios.

Librarian Loraine Murray will teach the basic skills used in the ancient art of papercutting on Tuesday, January 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Using sharp blades and paper, participants will create their own designs or use templates provided.

Librarian Amy Hand will review the art of doodle stitching and embroidery and teach basic stitching techniques on Tuesday, January 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Participants should bring a piece of clothing, a cloth purse, or any item made of thin fabric to embellish with embroidery. Needles, thread, and embroidery hoops will be provided.

Library programs coordinator Julia Pierce will offer Colonial Cooking for the Modern Kitchen on Thursday, January 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. She will review popular Colonial New England recipes and teach participants how to adapt and recreate them in a modern kitchen. Participants will make switchel, shrub, a homemade salad dressing, and journey cakes.
