Georges River Education Foundation (GREF) awarded more than $45,000 in grants this year — obtained from public donations — to fund educational programs at Oceanside Middle School, Thomaston Grammar School, St. George School and Cushing Community School.

GREF is a nonprofit organization that offers K through eight-grade teachers in Cushing, St. George and Thomaston funds for programs that promote and enrich their instructional goals, for educational resources and for professional development.

Awards ranging in amounts from $300 to $3,000 funded 32 grants to support a wide range of programs, including classroom library expansion, alewife restoration project, fitness, hydroponics, National Science Conference and more.

Georges River Education Foundation has funded more than 150 educational programs during the past 22 years. In November, the organization will launch its annual mail campaign for public support. Donations may be sent to GREF, P.O. Box 103, Thomaston, ME 04861.
