Rockland Public Library will offer a free online presentation by author Michael Hillard at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 11.

From the early 20th century until the 1960s, Maine led the nation in paper production. Hillard’s new book, “Shredding Paper,” discusses the history behind the rise and fall of Maine’s paper industry. Telling the story of labor relations and worker experiences, Hillard’s portrayal of the defunct paper industry centers on blue-collar workers and families.

A professor of economics at the University of Southern Maine, Hillard has published widely in the fields of labor relations, labor, working-class history and the political economy of labor and capitalism. He regularly provides expert testimony in Maine regarding macroeconomics and employment issues affecting working people.
