The annual Maine Coast Carving and Art Competition, sponsored by Penobscot Bay Carvers and Artists Association, will be held this year at a new location — the Blue Goose Center in Northport — and at a new time of year — over Memorial Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26. The show is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Carvers, artists and photographers must enter their pieces on Friday, May 24, from noon to 6 p.m., or on Saturday from 7 to 9 a.m. Levels of competition include youth, novice, intermediate, open and masters. Entry fees are $5 for youth; $7 for novice, intermediate and open; and $12 for masters. In the art and photography categories, pictures must be of either wildlife or coastal scenery.

Raffle tickets for a loon carved by Frank Solari of Cushing and a bufflehead drake by Steve Moody of Waldo will be available for $1 each, or six for $5.
