Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) invites the public to its 2019 Distinguished Lecture presented by artists Alex Katz and David Salle on Tuesday, July 23, 5:30 p.m., at Strand Theatre, 345 Main Street, Rockland. Tickets are $15 for CMCA members, $20 general, and can be purchased online at or by calling 701-5005. 

A reception and book signing at CMCA will immediately follow the lecture. Katz and Salle have been friends for more than 35 years. In that time they have had hundreds of conversations on art, philosophy, culture and life. At the Strand, they will discuss looking at art through the lens of history, fashion and aesthetics. 

Katz is one of today’s most prolific and influential painters. He has had more than 200 solo exhibitions in many of the world’s major museums and is author of the recently published “Looking at Art with Alex Katz.”  Salle is an internationally renowned painter and printmaker who helped define postmodern sensibility. His work has been exhibited worldwide. He is also a prolific writer on art.
