Midcoast Actors’ Studio (MAS) will present the holiday favorite The Snow Queen, December 7 to 16, at the Crosby Center, 96 Church Street in Belfast. The play is an adaptation from an original fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Many versions of the story have been presented through the years, including Disney’s recent animated musical “Frozen.” As with many of the tale’s versions, The Snow Queen selects key parts from the seven stories that comprise the original tale to teach the lesson of friendship, as the adventures of the characters are followed while they traverse a magical northern land.

Two best friends, Gerda and Kai, have made the mistake of insulting the traditions of the trolls. With the use of a magical hobgoblin mirror, the trolls get their revenge on Kai, leading him to adore the cold and stern Snow Queen, who takes him away to her crystal palace. Not knowing where her friend has gone, Gerda makes a long trek through dangerous lands to bring back her friend.

Directed by Greg Marsanskis, the MAS cast includes Gemma Bradney, Chris and Bryan Hayes, Annabelle Lisa, Sarah Joy, Anna Leigh Fultz and April Rejman. Music is performed by Jeff Densmore.

The Snow Queen runs Friday and Saturday nights, December 7, 8, 14 and 15, at 7 p.m., with 3 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday, December 8, 9, 15 and 16. Tickets are $10 for age 13 and older, $7 for children 12 and under, and can be purchased at midcoastactors.org in advance, or at the door.
