Down East Singers plans to create a video performance in collaboration with Bay Chamber Concerts for broadcast on Memorial Day, May 31, and will hold an informational Zoom meeting about the project on Tuesday, January 12, from 7 to 8 p.m. Email downeastsingers@gmail.com to request the link to attend. Regular Zoom meetings will be held Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. in lieu of rehearsals, beginning on Tuesday, January 19, until it is warm enough to meet outdoors.

Filming will take place in a hayfield in Cushing beginning the end of March and finishing by early May. Rehearsals and recording sessions will be on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Masks will be required at all times, including when singing. Singers will be spaced 12 feet apart from each other. To view the group’s December 2020 concert-in-the-hayfield video, go to Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School’s YouTube channel.

All are welcome. The membership fee will continue at the reduced rate of $50 for the spring semester; free for students ages 18 and under. Scholarships are available.

The choral repertoire will be by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, including an early work in praise of spring (sung in English) and selected movements from his 1910 “Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom.” The Midcoast Brass Quintet will double the vocal parts to keep the group together in pitch and tempo. The electronic platform My Choral Coach will be available free of charge to help singers learn their parts.
