The Social Justice Team at First Church in Belfast, 8 Court Street, will hold a concert on Sunday, August 18, at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary. In June, more than 250 asylum seekers arrived legally in Portland from Africa fleeing violence and persecution; the concert is in support of their needs. Musicians will include pianists Jon Burroughs, Amy Kercsmar and Barbara Kemp, flutist Maho Hisakawa, and vocalists John Sage, Isaac Bray, Katelyn Parker-Bray and Maggie Goscinski. Music will include songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein and Leonard Bernstein, works by George Gershwin, and folk songs arranged by Benjamin Britten, among others. Suggested donation is $10. For more information, call the church at 338-2282.
