Hannaford Charitable Foundation has donated $50,000 to Central Lincoln County (CLC) YMCA’s capital campaign. An official check presentation will be held at the YMCA soon, and Hannaford’s name will be put on the new kitchen when Y facility renovations are complete in 2018.

The Y’s capital campaign is raising funds to build a sustainable new facility.

The kitchen will be used to distribute healthy meals to youth and adults throughout the year and will provide a comfortable space for YMCA members to learn how to cook and about nutrition and healthy eating. The kitchen will also be used in the Y’s new Diabetes Prevention program in partnership with Boothbay Region YMCA and LincolnHealth.

“This new kitchen will have a diverse and powerful impact on the local community,” says CLC Y CEO Meagan Hamb-lett. “We are grateful to Hannaford for their support in helping us reach our goal.”

Melissa Zayac, Damariscotta Hannaford store manager, says, “Our mission is to invest in creating and sustaining healthy communities. We recognize and applaud the Y for all that they do for this community to promote healthy living, youth development and social responsibility. We are proud to partner with them and look forward to seeing the positive impact the new facility will have on this community for years to come.”

To date, CLC Y’s capital campaign has raised $3.9 million toward its $8.5 million goal, which will include the renovation of the existing building and construction of an aquatic center. The Y plans to actively fund-raise throughout the remainder of 2016. If the full amount is not raised by the end of 2016, the Y will take a phased approach, beginning with renovation of the existing facility plus some new construction, adding the aquatic facility in phase two.

Hannaford Charitable Foundation, formed in 1994, has over the last 20 years given over $14 million to support nonprofit organizations.
