FarmSmart Business Services and the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry will offer NxLevel Business Planning Course for Maine Farmers, six sessions beginning December 18, at the Deering Building, 90 Blossom Lane, Augusta. The course, which will be available on-site or online, is designed for Maine farmers with two or more years of commercial agricultural experience who want to improve their business and management skills, reconsider their business plan, and strengthen bookkeeping, financial and personnel management skills.

Sessions will include:

• Business Planning Basics, Purpose and Vision, December 18

• Keeping Better Books and Understanding How to Read Them, January 8

• How to Discover Where You’re Making (or Losing) Money, January 29

• Marketing, February 12

• Cultivating Your Farm Team, February 26

• Your Strategic Plan for Growth, Investment, Finance, and Retirement, March 11

Cost for the full course is $275 per farm, which includes participation by up to two people from each farm. Single sessions cost $50. Those who cannot attend in person may participate in one or all of the sessions remotely using any internet-linked computer. Recordings of each class will also be available to all participants.
