The Rockport Conservation Commission (RCC) is sponsoring a forum on generating electricity through wind power at the Rockport Opera House tonight, Thursday, May 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free; everyone is welcome. There will be several presentations, plus a question-and-answer period.

Habib Dagher, head of the AEWC Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine and the leader of the university's DeepCwind Consortium, will discuss plans for establishing the turbine test site offshore near Monhegan Island.

State Senator Chris Rector, who represents Knox County, will speak on Maine state government's views on alternative energy.

Dr. Richard Podolsky, senior ecologist and a member of the Rockport Conservation Commission, who did the study in preparation for the Fox Island Electric Cooperative and is currently doing a follow-up study, will discuss the study.

Suzanne Pude of the Maine Community Wind-Island Institute, which provides support to islands considering wind power through community outreach, data analysis and research, will discuss the processes conducted for the North Haven/Vinalhaven project and the community's involvement.

Des FitzGerald, chair of the Camden Energy Committee, will talk about the committee's work.

For further information, contact RCC chair Ted Skowronski at 596-7230.

This is the first in a series of educational forums that the RCC plans to sponsor.
