The 25th annual Camden Conference will be held Friday through Sunday, February 17 to 19, at the Camden Opera House, with satellite locations in Ellsworth (The Grand), Rockland (Strand Theatre) and Belfast (Hutchinson Center). Throughout the conference, those attending will have the opportunity to address questions to the speakers both individually and as they take part in panels.

The conference will begin on Friday evening with the keynote address by Bill Richardson, introducing the conference theme, "The U.S. in a 21st-Century World: Do We Have What It Takes?" Richardson is former governor of New Mexico, congressman, Secretary of Energy, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and 2008 presidential candidate.

Saturday morning, Pete du Pont, former governor of Delaware, member of Congress, 1988 presidential candidate, and currently journalist and economic consultant, will address the issues of our faltering economy and our future. Next, Clyde Prestowitz, founder and president of the Economic Strategy Institute, will look at economic issues. Wrapping up the morning, energy and environmental expert Amory Lovins, cofounder and chief scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute, will talk on "Reinventing Fire: A Business-Led Clean Energy Solution for Security and Prosperity."

Saturday afternoon will focus on national security and diplomacy issues.

Colonel Larry Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, will lead off with an assessment of the country's current military and national security situation. Wilkerson is visiting professor at the College of William and Mary and a professional lecturer in the Honors Program at George Washington University. His distinguished career in the Army included teaching at the Naval War College and the Marine Corps War College.

The team of Wayne Porter and Mark Mykleby will follow with "Beyond Risk and Threat: The Need for a National Strategic Narrative." Porter and Mykleby served as strategic advisors to Admiral Mike Mullens at the Pentagon and developed a well-known paper on the national strategic narrative.

Nicholas Burns, former Undersecretary of State and currently professor at the Kennedy School at Harvard University, will focus on an "International Strategy for U.S. Diplomacy."

Sunday's talks will address two further key areas - education and media. Robert Schwartz, professor of educational policy and administration at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will look at "U.S. Education in a Global Context." Deborah Amos, Middle East foreign correspondent for National Public Radio, will address media in the modern world.
