Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 22, to help the Friends of Fort Knox and the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) clean up the Civil War–era State Historic Site in Prospect, sweeping, raking and generally readying it for its opening on May 1 (though the Fort is open the week of April school vacation). Helpers should arrive at 10:00 and bring rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, leaf blowers, tarps and work gloves. Volunteers will receive T-shirts and have an opportunity to learn about the historic site. For more information about Park Day at Fort Knox, call 469-6553 or e-mail FOFK1@aol.com. Fort Knox is owned by the people of Maine and managed by the Friends of Fort Knox under a lease with the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands; for more information, visit fortknox.maineguide.com.
