The Picker Family Resource Center of Pen Bay Healthcare recently received a $50,000 grant from MaineHealth to implement "Let's Go! 5-2-1-0," a childhood-obesity prevention program, in Knox County.

Let's Go! 5-2-1-0 is designed to encourage healthy eating and active living in children from birth to age 18. The 5-2-1-0 title stands for a daily recommendation of five or more fruits and vegetables, two hours or less of recreational screen time, one hour or more of physical activity, and zero sugary drinks and more water and low-fat milk. The program, originated by The Kids CO-OP at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, is being implemented statewide.

Donna DeBlois, vice president of Community Health for Pen Bay Healthcare, says, "This new initiative will combine the talents of Adrienne Gallant, the Let's Go! Knox County coordinator, and Donna Ames, coordinator of ZING!, a PBH clinical program designed to encourage children to adopt healthy eating and exercise habits. We will also be collaborating widely across Knox County, working with school health teams, childcare providers, after-school programs and local businesses. The Let's Go! Team also includes Nancy Laite and Woody Moore of the Knox County Healthy Maine Partnership and Sue Low, clinical manager of PBH Employee Health Services."
