Rockport Town Manager Richard “Rick” Bates was recently appointed to the 12-member Executive Committee of the Maine Municipal Association (MMA), along with Solon Selectman Elaine Aloes. They will serve two-year terms on the committee.
Bates has served as Rockport town manager since June 2013. Prior to that, he managed the Town of Raymond, New Hampshire, from 2000 to 2007, and was that town’s Parks and Recreation director from 1977 to 2000. He also served on the executive committee of the Municipal Management Association of New Hampshire, holding the position of vice president at one point, and is a past president of the New Hampshire Recreation and Park Association.
Aloes, who has chaired the Solon Select Board since 1998, has more than 26 years of municipal experience with the town. She served on MMA’s Executive Committee from 2001 to 2003, and since 1999 has served on the organization’s 70-member Legislative Policy Committee.
MMA is a voluntary, nonpartisan member service organization, based on the belief that local government is a fundamental component of a democratic system of government; 486 municipalities in Maine belong to the association.
