Course on Changing Lifestyle to Avoid Diabetes
Thursday, December 29, 2016 3:10 PM
Healthy Lifestyles, a course to help prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes, will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays from January 26 to May 18 in the Community Room at Biscone Medical Building, 119 Northport Avenue in Belfast; after that there will be monthly follow-ups through November.
The course, a program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is a group-based lifestyle change program, not a weight loss program. It has been proven to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes by 58 percent. Participants learn ways to build healthier eating habits and add physical activity into their daily life while working with registered dietitians and group participants to identify and overcome barriers to making modest lifestyle changes.
The course is covered by most insurance; for more information or to request an application, call 930-2684.
