Allen Insurance and Financial has given a substantial gift in support of the Round the Mountain Collaboration, a community-based project led by Coastal Mountains Land Trust to permanently conserve over 1,400 acres of land on Ragged Mountain, protect the water supply for six midcoast communities and establish the proposed nine-mile four-season Round the Mountain Trail.

“We have been longtime supporters of Coastal Mountains Land Trust and their latest initiative, the Round the Mountain Collaboration, is an important and visionary undertaking,” said President and Financial Advisor Michael Pierce. “Supporting this project is an investment in the long-term viability of our region and is part of what makes working and living in mid-coast Maine so worthwhile.”

At the core of the Round the Mountain Collaboration is the opportunity to purchase two conservation easements from the Maine Water Company that will protect the entire southern side of Ragged Mountain as well as significant land around Mirror Lake and Grassy Pond. The Land Trust has until December 31, 2017, to purchase the first 855-acre easement, and until December 31, 2019, to complete the second 550-acre easement. In total, the Round the Mountain Collaboration has a goal of raising $4.2 million, of which nearly half has been already committed. To meet the first easement deadline, the Land Trust needs to raise an additional $865,000 in cash by December 31, 2017.

With its recent gift, Allen Insurance and Financial has taken the lead in the Land Trust’s business support strategy as the campaign heads into summer. The goal of the Round the Mountain Collaboration is “to engage the community in the conservation and stewardship of Ragged Mountain so that future generations can continue to benefit from the miles of trail, clean water and diverse wildlife habitats and scenic views it offers.”
