Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine invites businesses, organizations and individuals to take part in Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2017, in which more than 600 teams of bowlers will raise funds to support youth mentoring in Androscoggin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Somerset and Waldo counties.

Bowl For Kids’ Sake is the organization’s largest fund-raiser of the year, with night and weekend bowling at multiple locations in four regions — Midcoast, Kennebec Valley, Central Maine and Penobscot County. Proceeds will help create and support hundreds of matches between high school students and their Littles in school-based programs, and between community Bigs and their Littles. All services are free of charge to children and families.

Both businesses and individuals can register bowling teams at bbbsmidmaine.org, select a desired bowling date and time, and create personal fund-raising pages where supporters can make electronic donations. Bowlers can also download pledge forms to collect donations in person.

Teams that raise $500 or more will receive this year’s “Go Big or Go Home” T-shirts. Individuals who raise $100 or more will be entered into a grand prize drawing. This year’s theme is “Super Heroes” and teams are invited to dress in superhero costumes. There will be hourly bowling prizes awarded and a special recognition event for the most successful fund-raisers.

Bowling will take place in the midcoast area (Northport, Belfast, Rockport and Waldoboro) from April 2 to 11, and in the Kennebec Valley area (Skowhegan, Augusta, Hallowell) from May 1 to 6.

The Kennebec Valley area also plans a special event, “Putt 4 Cass,” on Saturday, May 20, at Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream and Mini Golf in Waterville, to honor the memory of Big Sister and BBBS Volunteer Cassidy Charette, who died in a hayride accident in 2014.

Local businesses can support Bowl for Kids’ Sake and Putt 4 Cass by becoming sponsors, donating prizes and registering teams to participate. Volunteers are also welcome.  For more information or help registering teams, call 236-BBBS (2227), e-mail info@bbbsmidmaine.org or visit www.bbbsmidmaine.org.
