Sales of single-family existing homes increased by 25.24 percent in May, as compared to sales in May 2015, according to Maine Association of Realtors. The statewide median sales price (MSP) saw a modest 2.84 percent increase over last May, to $190,250. The MSP indicates that half of the homes sold for more and half sold for less.

The National Association of Realtors show sales of single-family existing homes increased by 4.7 percent and the national MSP rose 4.6 percent to $241,000 in May. Regional sales in the Northeast are 11.6 percent higher than one year ago, while the regional MSP dipped by 0.10 percent, to $268,600.

Ed Gardner, 2016 president of the Maine Association of Realtors, said, “All areas of Maine are experiencing robust activity. Consumers with good credit are actively looking to purchase. Demand is very high and is likely fueled by continued low mortgage interest rates, Maine’s exceptional quality of life, and increasing rental costs due to the limited supply of rental units in some markets.”

Below are sales statistics for Maine and its 16 counties, leading off with statistics for the month of May only, statewide. The county-by-county list then compares the number of existing, single-family homes sold (units) and the median sales price (MSP) during March, April and May 2016, as compared to the same three months in 2015.
